Sprecher is well known for making good root beer. You can find Sprecher root beer in several locations, including Hy-Vee and Menards. Sprecher makes regular root beer, cream soda, cherry soda, and orange cream soda, as well as several other variations.
For this review, I am focusing on their low-calorie root beer.
Branding
Sprecher always uses a griffin-like silhouette for their logo, and their 45-calorie version doesn’t deviate from this tradition. If you are looking for a Sprecher drink, you'll spot it quickly because of its bright colors and distinctive logo.

Taste and Ingredients
The Sprecher’s 45-calorie root beer smells the same as the regular, which isn’t much of a surprise. At first, it tastes very similar to the regular root beer.
Sprecher tends to be pretty flat, though, and I thought I tasted an artificial aftertaste. However, it’s not like a stevia aftertaste, so that’s good anyway. I believe Sprecher is the only brewery I have ever seen that uses a fire for their brewing. You probably won’t be able to tell that just by taste, though.
Sprecher uses regular glucose syrup rather than high-fructose corn syrup, in combination with raw honey, to keep their soda low-calorie.
I liked the flavoring here even with the low carbonation. I don’t know from taste alone whether this will create a head, but I doubt it will be very foamy.
The Wrap Up
Sprecher does a good job with this low-calorie root beer. I am typically not a fan of diet sodas or sparkling waters, but this one is actually pretty good. If you want a root beer with fewer calories and good taste, this one may be for you. It’s also cool that Sprecher made their drink with raw honey and still kept the calories so low.
