White Rock Beverages is the brand behind the Sioux City drink line. In addition to birch beer, they have sarsaparilla, root beer, creme soda, and a couple of other drinks.
Branding
Sioux City drinks go for a Wild West look with a cowboy entering a saloon in this case. They are fairly recognizable if you know what you’re looking for, although the Sioux City part of the logo is much larger than the drink name, so be sure to check what you’re getting.
Taste and Ingredients
Sadly, Sioux City doesn’t have a twist-off cap, so bring a bottle opener when you crack this drink open. The first smell is faint and kind of reminds me of vanilla or root beer.
This birch beer is red rather than the dark brown most root beers are. In my experience, other birch beer brands are also red, although I think I have had one that was clear as well.
The taste is kind of a vanilla creme type drink. It reminds me of root beer, but doesn’t really taste like it. You might find that it’s closer to a creme soda. The flavor is good though. The drink doesn’t have much carbonation, but that’s okay.
The Wrap Up
Sioux City’s Birch Beer was the first type of birch beer I had ever had many years ago. It’s still good, and it’s also the only one I have found easily in Iowa.
