Zevia has been making sugar-free sodas for years. They have quite the collection of drinks, including a root beer flavor. Of course, they also now have a lot of competition. Don’t confuse Zevia with sparkling water, though. This is a sugar-free soda only!
Let’s see how their drink stacks up against the competition.
Branding
Zevia does a good job with its branding. They made their logo nice and large, and the flavor name is easy to find and read as well.
I rather like the frothy mug, although the straw seems superfluous to me.

Taste and Ingredients
I have never liked drinks where the sole sweetener is Stevia. Something about that sweetener just doesn’t taste good. So right from the first sip, I didn’t like this drink. I will say, though, that Zevia is smooth going down and even a little creamy.
However, I wouldn’t really call it root beer. For one thing, the taste is too subtle, and it’s overpowered by a medicinal flavor. For another, the drink is completely clear, so it looks a lot like sparkling water. It might even have a hint of mint.
When you pop the top, it smells a little like root beer with a twist of wintergreen.
The Wrap Up
Zevia used to be what I considered the worst root beer I had ever tasted. I have tried many more since and found others that were worse, but this is probably the worst sugar-free root beer I have had.
I would pick sparkling water-based root beers over this one. I find Zevia very artificial and, in the case of their root beer, very medicinal as well, which is not something I want to drink.
